Hawkshaw is a fictional character, a mutant in the Marvel Comics Universe. His first appearance was in Uncanny X-Men #235.
Hawkshaw is the leader of the team of Genoshan Magistrates known as the Press Gang at the time the X-Men first come to the island. After Genosha degenerated into civil war, he led a smaller team of Press Gang members in battle against the rebellion. His team consisted of Pipeline, Punchout, Gunshot and an unnamed black-haired female that was seemingly killed in battle.
Hawkshaw has a particular hate for Phillip Moreau, whom he considers a traitor. He almost killed him once, but was stopped with a telepathic blast from Cable.
It is unknown if he retained or lost his mutant powers during the M-Day.
Hawkshaw is capable of sensing people through their proximity, detecting whenever people entered a certain radius around his person. This psionic detection sense alert him to the presence of animals, humans and superhumans, and allows him to track them across continents.
The power is also moderately sensitive to the mental activity of these people -- he can't read thoughts, but he can recognize if people in his vicinity are awake or asleep. He can recognize mutants by their presence, and sense familiar ones he encounters.
